2nd GeFam Mentoring Session on Research and Career

WHEN:
September 3, 2025 - Brazilian Institute of Education, Development and Research (IDP)
Brasília - Brazil

About the Mentoring Session
The GeFam Mentoring Session is an initiative designed to support and inspire young researchers—especially those from historically underrepresented regions and backgrounds—who are interested in gender, family, and economics.
Building on the success of its first edition, this year’s session brings several improvements to the format, with an even stronger focus on helping students build meaningful career paths both inside and outside academia.
Objective
The main goal is to offer a space for dialogue between students and experienced mentors, guiding participants through potential career opportunities and providing individualized feedback on their research ideas or early-stage projects.

How will it work?
The session includes three key components:
1. Opening Talk:
A panel with experts presenting concrete opportunities to build a career in economics, including:
- Research scholarships and pre-doc programs;
- Opportunities in international organizations, NGOs, and think tanks;
- Strategies to advance in or beyond academia.
2. Group Mentoring:
Participants will choose one of four thematic groups, according to their interests. Each group will be led by experienced researchers and focus on:
1. Academic Careers
2. Beyond Academia
3. Emotional Resilience and Balance
4. Lessons Learned
This format replaces last year’s rotating model, allowing for deeper, more focused discussions.
3. Individual Feedback:
Each selected participant will receive personalized comments from mentors on their submitted project or research idea.
Who can apply?
Undergraduate and graduate students or recent graduates interested in research on gender, family, and economics. Priority will be given to Black, Brown, and Indigenous students from Brazil’s North and Northeast regions.

Financial Support
There may be funding available to support travel and lodging expenses for participants from outside Brasília — with preference given to Black, Brown, and Indigenous students from the North and Northeast. Support is subject to funding availability.
